Abstract Animation Theory

I aim to animate a segment from Christopher Tin’s ‘We Overcame the Wind.’ Using stop motion, a sheet of paper will be torn apart in a rhythmic pattern. Long-winded vocals will be represented through sweeping stretches across the page, while quick instrumentals can be added with energetic charcoal lines. Since the song involves multiple artists singing in a foreign language, I would also be sure to use multiple tears that move faster or slower depending on the speed of the music. Higher pitches will be represented through vertical tears, while low pitches will be represented through flat, horizontal lines. I aim to allow the camera to sweep along the page to compliment the high level of energy in the composition.
