Balsa Wood, Gouache Paint, String, Feathers, 2016
Wood is particularly particular as a material because it is organic, a feature which influenced my character’s design. There are multiple elements which celebrate the human body, such as the clearly visible path of the respiratory system, worn boldly as clothes. As well, the character is projected with an image of human skin, zoomed in enough to see individual cells. This work in 3-Dimensional design relates to the rest of the DMA program, by presenting an opportunity to explore shapes beyond the usual flat 2-Dimensions.
