Interactive Design – Artistic Inspiration

Aidan Wilson, Adobe Photoshop, Charcoal, 2017

Ever since watching the 1973 film ‘Fantastic Planet,’ I’ve been fascinated with the art of its Production Designer, Roland Topor.  His work is surreal and constantly warps and manipulates the human form for an unsettling, but sometimes humorous effect. Above are three images I have made that were inspired by Topor’s body manipulations. Below are three of Roland Topor’s illustrations, including a frame from the film ‘Fantastic Planet.’ His landscapes are filled with trees that are modeled after organs, and it is very common for him to play with scale so that things that are usually small become ridiculously large.
