Kasey Hall animated this shot using the ‘Cody’ dog rig for Maya. Her character discovers a pencil-like object on the ground, and curiously investigates it. During the beginning of the animation, the dog jumps backwards in surprise. The timing of this jump is staggered, as Cody seems to move quickly at first, and then quickly slows down while still in mid air. This motion could be smoothed out, aiming for a consistent transition. As Cody walks around, the wrists of his paws never bend, which causes the characters legs to appear rigid. There is also a camera motion in this scene that carries the viewer closer to the dog over time. This motion doesn’t add much to the intent of the shot, and it may be a good idea to remove it altogether since it is mostly a distraction.
